Aligning Forces for Quality
Quality health care. It's a local issue. It's a national issue. It's everyone's issue.
Maine is one of fourteen communities selected from across the country to participate in a grant entitled Aligning Forces for Quality (AF4Q), a set of initiatives designed to improve the quality of healthcare and funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. AF4Q will help Maine communities drive improvements in the quality of healthcare for patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, depression, and heart disease, improve the quality of hospital-based care, and reduce healthcare disparities among diverse populations in the state.
AF4Q is led by Quality Counts (www.mainequalitycounts.org), in close partnership with the Maine Health Management Coalition and the Maine Quality Forum (www.mainequalityforum.gov). These partners work with numerous stakeholder groups including consumers, healthcare providers, purchasers, insurers, and public health organizations to improve healthcare by aligning efforts within and across three areas, or “forces”: quality improvement, performance measurement and public reporting and consumer engagement.
The AF4Q grant runs from 2007 through 2011 and totals $1,600,000 over four years. You can find further information at www.mainequalitycounts.org/what/aligning.php
