"Practices that filed PTE reports had higher scores on each of six quality indicators than those that did not file, and the difference was statistically significant."

Business Case for Performance Measurement and Public Reporting of Quality Data
MHMC recognizes that measuring, reporting, and improving
care requires considerable work for physician practices, which already dedicate
considerable effort and resources to deliver high quality care to their
patients. Practices benefit reporting
their quality data for public recognition in several ways:
Continuous Improvement: Practices that measure
and report quality can use this data to continually improve the care they
deliver
Pay for Performance: The major commercial health plans and
MaineCare use PTE or similar quality ratings in their pay-for-performance or incentive programs
Value-based Insurance Design: Several Maine employers and health plan sponsors use PTE ratings as the basis for incentives offered to their employees and their dependents
Alignment with Other Measurement Programs: MHMC continually works to align its PTE measures with other state and federal quality measures, such as those used in Medicare incentive programs, and the CMS EHR Incentive program for achieving meaningful use
