"If you want to see the future of health care reform, look at what's happening in Maine.  The Coalition's innovative programs for quality and cost measurement, employer and consumer engagement, and health care payment and delivery reform will likely be a model for the nation in how to successfully reduce health care costs and improve the quality of care for citizens."

Employee Activation & Consumer Engagement

The Maine Health Management Coalition (MHMC) believes that active employee/patient/consumer involvement in their healthcare will not only improve health outcomes, but also catalyze the healthcare system to improve value.  Therefore, after the Pathways to Excellence initiatives began publicly reporting quality data, MHMC started the Employee Activation Initiative to help member organizations communicate about quality healthcare to their employees.  Each member of MHMC can participate in the Employee Activation User Group.

MHMC believes that each individual learns differently.  Numerous tools – such as brochures, videos, lunch & learns, and more – have been created with the goal to educate employees about quality healthcare, empower them to partner with their providers in their care and make informed decision about choice of providers and treatment options.  The User Group exists to obtain feedback on Employee Activation Initiative activities from MHMC member organizations.  The User Group helps generate, share, and revise ideas, create implementation plans, and participate in material development to help empower employees and other healthcare consumers.
