Maine Health Information Center (MHIC)
The
MHIC is an independent, nonprofit, health data organization focused on
providing healthcare data services, and committed to promoting informed
decision making by designing, managing, and analyzing timely, high quality,
integrated healthcare databases.
Maine Quality
Forum (MQF)
In 2003, Governor Baldacci and the Maine Legislature created
the MQF, as an independent division of Dirigo Health, to continue Maine's
leadership in assuring high quality healthcare for its citizens. MQFs
mission is to advocate for high quality healthcare and help each Maine citizen
make informed healthcare choices.
Quality
Counts (QC)
QC is a
statewide non-profit healthcare quality improvement collaborative working with
multiple stakeholders to improve prevention and healthcare in Maine. It was established in 2004 by over 35
organizations committed to working together to improve healthcare across the
state.
NATIONAL RESOURCES
National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH)
NBCH is a national, non-profit, membership organization of
employer-based health care coalitions. NBCH
and its members are dedicated to value-based purchasing of health care services
through the collective action of public and private purchasers. NBCH seeks to accelerate the nation's
progress towards safe, efficient, high-quality health care and the improved
health status of the American population.
The Leapfrog Group
for Patient Safety
Leapfrog is a voluntary program aimed at mobilizing employer
purchasing power to alert America’s health industry that big leaps in health
care safety, quality, and customer value will be recognized and rewarded. Among other initiatives, Leapfrog works with
its employer members to encourage transparency and easy access
to health care information as well as rewards for hospitals that have
a proven record of high quality care.
Joint Commission
An independent, not-for-profit organization, Joint
Commission accredits and certifies more than 15,000 healthcare organizations
and programs in the United States. Joint
Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol
of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance
standards.
National Committee on Quality
Assurance (NCQA)
This not-for-profit organization is dedicated to improving
healthcare quality through measurement,
transparency and accountability. Since its
founding in 1990, NCQA has been a central figure in driving improvement throughout
the health care system, helping to elevate the issue of healthcare quality to
the top of the national agenda.
Institute of Medicine (IOM)
Part
of the National Academies, the
non-profit IOM offers science-based advice on matters of biomedical
science, medicine, and health. Chartered
in 1970 as a component of the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute works
outside the framework of government to ensure scientifically informed analysis
and independent guidance.
National Quality
Forum (NQF)
NQF is a not-for-profit membership
organization created to develop and implement a national strategy for
healthcare quality measurement and reporting.
Key topics include patient outcomes, workforce productivity, and healthcare
costs.
Department of
Health and Human Services (HHS)
HHS is the U.S. government's principal agency for protecting
the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially
for those who are least able to help themselves. The
department includes more than 300 programs, covering a wide spectrum of
activities including: health and
social science research; preventing disease, including immunization services;
assuring food and drug safety; Medicare and Medicaid; health information
technology and more.
Center for
Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
CMS is the federal agency responsible for administering the Medicare, Medicaid,
SCHIP (State Children's Health Insurance), HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act), CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), and
several other health-related programs.
Agency
for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ)
AHRQ
is the lead federal agency charged with improving the quality, safety,
efficiency, and effectiveness of healthcare for all Americans. As 1 of 12 agencies within the Department of
Health and Human Services, AHRQ supports health services research that will
improve the quality of healthcare and promote evidence-based decision-making.
Aligning Forces for Quality (AF4Q)
AF4Q is a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) designed to help
communities across the country improve the quality of healthcare for patients
with chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, depression, and heart
disease. The $25-million program is part
of RWJF's continuing effort to close the gap between the quality of healthcare
that Americans now receive and what the healthcare system is capable of
delivering.
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Quality/Equality
Helping communities set and achieve ambitious goals to
improve the quality of healthcare in ways that matter to all patients and their
families, and in particular to patients from specific racial and ethnic
backgrounds who often experience lower-quality care.

Exchange (CVE)
Maine is 1 of 14 communities awarded a special Department of Health and Human Services
distinction for its strong commitment to improving quality and value in
healthcare through a partnership of providers, employers, insurers, and
consumers working to implement cutting-edge, collaborative methods to transform
healthcare at the local level.
